Success Starts Here

The Mano a Mano Scholarship Empowerment Program seeks to encourage students in the Coastal Bend to pursue post – secondary education for technical careers and to commit to maintaining employment in Corpus Christi.

An Educational Scholarship Endowment Program Administered by the Coastal Bend Community Foundation

The Mano a Mano Scholarship program was established by the Corpus Christi Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Flint Hills Resources to encourage students to complete high school and to continue their education through college. Scholarships provided through the Mano a Mano Program will assist local students to achieve college degrees/certificates in technical fields of study relating to local employment to promote the growth of a local workforce educated in the fields needed to fill job vacancies in the Corpus Christi area.

This one year scholarship, available to high school seniors or students who have graduated or hold a GED Certificate from area high schools; or students who are currently attending an accredited post-secondary educational institution in Corpus Christi or Kingsville, Texas. Scholarship awards are given up to $2,000. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, be full time students and demonstrate a willingness to seek employment in the Corpus Christi area following graduation. Recipients may re-submit applications for subsequent years.

Due to the high drop out rates in the Corpus Christi area and the need for specific job skills in the industrial sector, this scholarship program will help and encourage students to complete high school and continue with secondary education. Students will be selected based on their commitment to achieve a targeted career field and to stay in the Corpus Christi area as a productive worker and citizen. This program will help fill the needs of keeping students in educational and training settings and to fill vacancies in our local industries. The range of positions available in the technical area are varied and since the educational attainment levels needed to fulfill those positions are varied, eligible students will be chosen on their academic performance records and other criteria.

Expected Outcomes
1. Increase the number of graduates with skills that meet the occupational needs of Corpus Christi over the next 10 years.

2. Increased awareness within the community on the available jobs and opportunities that exist within the Corpus Christi business community.

3. The creation of a support group for educating the families of potential students as they enter middle school on the importance of attending post-secondary education.

4. An improved system that will increase the business community’s involvement in the school system.
